Hokkaido, Our New Home: Why We Chose to Move Here

Introduction: Hello from Mikity Tour

Hello! We are Mikity Tour, a traveling couple.
This blog is created by my wife, Mikity, and me, Daiki.

After traveling around the world, we realized something important:
the place we truly want to return to is Hokkaido.

Our Global Travels

We have explored the United States from coast to coast and toured Europe extensively.

The breathtaking Yosemite and Grand Canyon National Parks

The beautiful streets of London

The storybook-like city of Bruges in Belgium

Each journey was a treasure in our lives.

Our travel theme has always been: spectacular scenery and delicious food.
No matter how far we traveled, Hokkaido always appeared in our hearts.

Why Hokkaido Felt Special

Hokkaido has always held a special place for us.
We visited once or twice every year, discovering new surprises and experiencing moments of awe.

In fact, I (Daiki) spent my university years in Hokkaido.
The “majestic landscapes,” “warm-hearted people,” and “abundant food” I felt back then became even more meaningful as we returned as adults.

We traveled all over Japan—Kyoto, Okinawa, Kyushu—but Hokkaido’s nature and food rival even the world’s most stunning landscapes and gourmet experiences.

“Let’s go back to Hokkaido again.”
“Next time, we should see the drift ice in winter.”

Gradually, Hokkaido transformed from a travel destination to a place we truly wanted to live.

Hokkaido Food: The Best in the World

Traveling abroad, we were often amazed by rich food cultures:

  • Hearty beef steaks and burgers in the U.S.
  • Fragrant croissants and French cuisine in France

But Hokkaido has something uniquely special:

  • Fresh seafood
  • Rich cheeses
  • Locally harvested vegetables

Every bite lets you feel the true power of the ingredients.

Mikity said with a smile, “Hokkaido’s food is the best in the world!”
I wholeheartedly agreed—it rivals both European gourmet and American hearty cuisine.

Quitting Work and Moving to Hokkaido

All these feelings built up until one day, I made a decision:
“I’m going to quit my job and move to Hokkaido.”

Of course, there were doubts.
Giving up a city career is not something one does lightly.
But finding a place you genuinely want to live in is rare in life.

So, we chose Hokkaido as our new home.

Experiencing the Four Seasons in Hokkaido

Living in Hokkaido, we realized how dynamic the seasons are:

  • Spring: Flowers bloom everywhere as the snow melts, coloring the world.
  • Summer: The patchwork hills of Biei and Furano release the scent of lavender.
  • Autumn: Mountains turn red and yellow, and delicious autumn harvests fill the table.
  • Winter: Snow covers everything, bringing a quiet strength to the landscape.

“Every day feels like a journey,” Mikity once said—a phrase that still resonates in my heart.

Why We Started Mikity Tour

While capturing videos and photos on our trips, we realized:
Why not share Hokkaido’s charm and our daily lives as a traveling couple with more people?

That’s how the YouTube channel Mikity Tour began.
And because some stories and emotions can’t fully be conveyed in videos, we started this blog.

The Future of Mikity Tour Blog

This blog will start with our travels and daily life in Hokkaido:

  • Biei, Furano, Shiretoko, Abashiri drift ice, Otaru

We will share our experiences as vividly as possible.
Gradually, we will expand to cover the rest of Japan, and eventually the world.
But our hearts will always remain rooted in Hokkaido.

Conclusion

America and Europe were amazing.
But we chose a life where we live in Hokkaido and continue our travels.

Through this blog, we hope to convey the charm of Hokkaido to you.
And perhaps, one day, inspire your own journey—there is no greater happiness than that.
